A Tale of the Morrigan and a Faery Abduction

A Tale performed in the tradition of the Seannachaí (old Irish Storytellers) about the Abduction by the Faeries of Micky Tobin and the subsequent Abduction by the Morrigan of Peggy Tobin. Peggy must remove the Curse on the Morrigan– (Queen of the Battles of Maige Tuired in which the Tuatha De Danann fought the Fomorians and Balor of the Evil Eye) in order to have her husband released from service to the Tuatha De Danann in battle.

Drawing from original Irish Mythology of the Cath Maige Tuiread this (adapted) tale is told from the viewpoint of a woman desperate to be reunited with her husband, in an Ireland where belief in the Good People, and the fear of them, drove behaviours that would today seem odd.

Yet one only must scratch the surface in rural Ireland to find that these beliefs still exist. Nobody should cut down a hawthorn, the faery tree. Nobody should plough on the field by a rath. Nobody should sing certain faery tunes while they dance. Trespass brings punishment.

An original tale written by Siofra O’Donovan, Writer in Residence at Dorlindon.

The tale, derived from original Irish manuscripts, contains some descriptions of sex and violence that is not suitable for younger children. 14+
