Paul Dooley is internationally recognised as one of the foremost exponents of Ireland’s early harp tradition. A performer, harp builder, and musicologist, he specialises in the historic wire-strung Irish harp, played with the fingernails in accordance with medieval and Gaelic tradition. Based in County Clare, he has spent decades researching early harp manuscripts, including the Robert ap Huw manuscript, and reconstructing lost repertoire and performance techniques. His work bridges scholarship and performance, bringing the authentic sound world of Ireland’s ancient harp back to life. He has performed widely as a soloist and alongside leading traditional musicians, and has also built historically informed instruments.

Kseniya Rusnak is a Ukrainian musician, composer, and educator from Kyiv. She is a master of the bandura, Ukraine’s national harp-lute instrument, known for its rich resonance and expressive storytelling tradition. Trained in both classical and folk music, she previously taught at the Kyiv Conservatory and has curated and led numerous cultural and charitable arts projects. Since relocating to Ireland, she has become an active contributor to the Irish traditional and early music scene, forging new musical dialogues across cultures.

Their collaboration began in Ireland in 2022 and quickly captivated audiences at major events such as the Willie Clancy Summer School and concert venues across the country. Together, they explore the deep connections between Irish and Ukrainian musical traditions, presenting a repertoire that includes medieval harp music, traditional tunes, songs, and contemporary works inspired by ancient sources. Their performances create a unique meeting point between two ancient harp cultures, revealing shared musical roots while celebrating the distinct voice of each tradition.
